This African elephant is often hunted for its tusks, an important part of their body. The African elephant is not currently endangered. It is now vulnerable. They are the largest land animal in the entire world. The African elephants herd through 37 different countries. Their trunk is used for communication, showering, breathing, drinking and grabbing things. Their trunk has more than 100,000 muscles in it. Another important part of their body is their ears. Because they are so large they can radiate heat. The tusks on their face will keep on growing for the rest of their life.
I chose the African elephant because it seemed like a good animal to learn about. I have always liked elephants, for they are smart and curious about many things. The World Wildlife Fund has been setting up new safe havens for the elephants. These safe havens are in the ranges of the elephants herding areas so they don’t have to live somewhere new. They are working towards setting up new ivory laws to stop the killing of these animals. The animal could be protected by new laws if they were to be made. The elephant is close to being endangered, but it is not.
