The animal I chose was the Amur Leopard. The Amur Leopard lives in Amur-Heilong Asia, in forests and on mountains. In the wild, Amur Leopards can live 10 to 15 years. It can run at speeds of 37 miles per hour and can jump 19 ft. and 10 ft. high. The Amur Leopard weighs between 70 and 105 pounds. If it does not finish its prey. It will carry it and hide it so other Amur Leopards don’t find it. Sometimes males will fight over a female. Amur Leopards live alone but some males will stay and help the female raise the young. The Amur Leopard is critically endangered and there are around 30 individuals left.
It is endangered because many poachers hunt it for its spotted fur. The poachers are also hunting the prey of the Amur Leopard. This means that there is not enough prey to feed the Amur Leopards. I chose the Amur Leopard because I didn’t really know a lot about it. I thought it would be very interesting to do. I also want to raise awareness for the Amur Leopard. To help protect the Amur Leopard people are trying to prevent poachers from hunting it. There is a protected area in Russia called the Leopard National Park. People are also working to bring back the Amur Leopards' prey so that they have enough food to eat and so they can repopulate.
